NOW & THEN #07- KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

Image
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT 02/03/2021 Tuesday 02/03/2021 Knowledge Management Yesterday, I submitted a proposal to my friend to present a short talk on Knowledge Management to his company, a Government Link Company. From my observations, many government organisations and private companies are not doing the right thing when it comes to Knowledge Management. As an engineer, it is my duty to ensure that engineering knowledge is captured, archived and made available to younger engineers especially on lessons learned from engineering projects and practice. It also applies to other disciplines of knowledge. Sharing my personal knowledge in managing business projects My peers who are in their ’60s now have done at least thirty years of engineering work- in projects, operation and maintenance. All our experience and tacit knowledge will be buried with us when we die. Time is not on our side. When I was posted to PWD( Public Work Department) Pasir Mas in December 1976, no one guided me on how to...

NOW & THEN #06 - CLUB HOUSE-SAFETY FOR CYCLISTS IN MALAYSIA

Image
NOW & THEN #06- Monday, 1 March 2021 Cycling Safety in Malaysia – A Critical Concern Last night, I joined a Clubhouse discussion on my iPad about making Selangor and Kuala Lumpur safer for cyclists. The session brought together experienced cyclists, advocates, and enthusiasts to discuss solutions for improving cycling safety in Malaysia. This conversation was timely, especially given the recent negative perception of cyclists due to reckless behavior by some new riders. These individuals, often unfamiliar with proper cycling etiquette, have been seen dangerously navigating city highways, tarnishing the image of responsible cyclists. As the ride leader of the Putrajaya Riders Club since 2014, safety has always been my top priority. Whenever I lead a group ride, I enforce strict safety protocols. No matter how well we follow the rules, we must always be prepared for mishaps and accidents. One of my non-negotiable rules is the mandatory use of helmets—no helmet, no ride. Treating Ever...

NOW & THEN #04: POWER OF HABIT

Image
Saturday 27/2/2021 NOW & THEN #04: POWER OF HABIT Dated on 27.2.2021 Let me begin by quoting Mr. Jordan Peterson: "Writing is formalized thinking." This profound statement resonates deeply with me, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it underscores the importance of writing as a tool for structuring thoughts and fostering clarity. It is one of the key reasons I have committed myself to writing regularly during these challenging times. This morning, I watched a talk by Dr. Pavan on the *Seven Habits of Creative People*. His insights prompted me to reflect on Stephen Covey’s famous *Seven Habits of Highly Effective People*. The common thread between these two frameworks is the concept of *habit*. Habits are the building blocks of creativity and effectiveness, and they shape the way we live our lives. Recognizing this, I have made it a personal goal to cultivate the habit of writing by dedicating time every morning to jotting down at least three pages of whatever c...
